Australia were all out on 440 in their first innings with Beth Mooney scoring a century as Sophie Ecclestone took a five-wicket haul. However, things took a drastic turn for the visitors as their batters failed to put up a fight at the MCG.

The first quarter started off on a very strong note for South Korea as they displayed a very attacking brand of hockey. Jihun Yang also converted a penalty corner to give them the lead.

Starting the tournament as clear favourites, Paris Olympics bronze-medallists India haven't disappointed so far, beating hosts China 3-0, Japan 5-1, trouncing Malaysia 8-1 before registering a 3-1 victory against Korea in their last match.

Fighting against the dominant Aussie bowlers, the likes of Heather Knight and co,22win failed with the bat as Alana King walked away with 9 wickets in the match.

Despite a late fightback from the lower-order, England's batting collapsed as Australia took the Ashes 16-0, and leave their opponents searching for answers.

What Happened On Day 2?

Australia dominated day 2 of the Women's Ashes one-off Test, finishing with 422/5, and leading England by 252 runs played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday (January 31, 2025). After early wickets, Sutherland's solid century (101) and Mooney's unbeaten 98 anchored the innings. The pair shared a 154-run partnership. Despite England's efforts, missed chances and a late fall of Gardner (44) left them struggling.

Day 1 Wrap
